Automatic On-the-Way and Arrived Texts From the Carpet Tech App
Carpet cleaning needs the customer more than most home services. Someone has to be home to open the door, the small stuff should be off the floor, and the pets need to be put away before the hose goes through the front door. All of that is easier when the customer knows the van is coming. Automatic texts let them know, without the tech typing a single message.
Texts That Follow the Route
The buttons that drive the day are covered in Start, Skip, Complete: The Three Buttons That Run a Carpet Cleaning Day. As the tech works through the route, the customer side moves along with it.
CarpetBossPro sends automatic on-the-way and arrived texts to customers as the tech works the route. The tech does not open a texting app, look up a number or type “on my way.” They drive and clean, and the customers further down the list get word that the van is coming.
The Alerts Customers Can Choose
Customers pick which alerts they want. The choices are:
- Night before. A reminder the evening before their cleaning. This is the one that gets the floor picked up and the dog's plans made.
- When they're next. A heads-up when the van is headed their way. Good for customers who are working from home or running errands.
- When the tech arrives. A text that the tech is at the door. Useful for customers upstairs, in the back yard or on a call.
Some customers want all three. Some want only the night-before reminder. Letting them choose keeps the texts welcome instead of annoying.
Why This Matters on Carpet Jobs
Carpet techs lose time at the door in a few predictable ways:
- Nobody home. The customer forgot or stepped out. A night-before reminder and a when-you're-next text cut down on those.
- The floor is covered. Toys, shoes, laundry. A reminder gives the customer time to clear it.
- The pets are loose. A dog at the door when the hose needs to come in means waiting. An on-the-way text gives the customer time to put the dog away.
- The van can't park. A customer who knows the van is close can move their car out of the driveway.
The arrived text helps in a different way. A customer working in a back office upstairs, or out in the yard, may never hear a knock over the noise of the house. A text saying the tech is at the door gets them to the front before the tech starts wondering whether to tap Skip. It also lets the customer meet the tech for the opening walk-through, which is where the rooms and stains get agreed.
Each of these is a few minutes. Over a day, those minutes add up to the difference between finishing the route and running out of daylight.
The Live Map
Customers who use the customer app can see today's route on a live map, with their place in line, like “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away.” The texts tell them something is happening, and the map shows them how close it is. A customer who can see the van three stops away does not call the office to ask.
The customer side is covered in more detail in The Customer Side of the Carpet Cleaning App: What Homeowners See While Your Tech Works.
Replies Go to the Office
Customers reply to texts. “Running ten minutes late, can you start upstairs?” “The gate code changed.” “Can you add the loveseat?” With CarpetBossPro, replies come back to the office through two-way texting, not to the tech's personal phone.
That is better for everyone. The tech is not reading texts while driving or cleaning. The office sees the message and decides what to do: pass a gate code to the tech, add a line item, or move the job. And the tech's personal number stays private.
Texts and the Monthly Allowance
Plans include a monthly text allowance for texts sent and received: 500 on Start, 1,000 on Pro and 2,000 on Crew, in the US and Canada. Automatic texts and two-way replies both count toward it.
Customer choices help here too. A customer who only wants the night-before reminder uses fewer texts than one who wants all three alerts. For most carpet companies, the night-before reminder plus an on-the-way text covers what matters.
Texts get the customer ready. The next guide covers what happens when the job is done: Charging the Card on File When the Carpet Tech Taps Complete. For the full tech app, visit the CarpetBossPro carpet cleaning app page.
