Before-and-After Photos From the Carpet Tech's Phone, Shown to the Customer in Their App
Carpet cleaning has a strange problem. The better the job, the less the customer remembers how bad it looked. A week later, the traffic lane that was gray is just carpet, and the customer wonders what they paid for. Before-and-after photos solve that, and they do double duty as a record for the office when something is questioned.
Photos on the Job, Not in the Camera Roll
The dry time, condition and customer note are covered in The Note for the Customer: Dry Time, Condition and What to Expect After the Carpet Tech Leaves. Photos are the visual half of that same record.
In CarpetBossPro, techs take before-and-after photos right in the tech app. The photos are saved with the job, not lost in a personal camera roll next to vacation pictures. When the office opens the job, the photos are there. When the customer opens the customer app, they can see them too.
What to Photograph
Not every square foot needs a photo. A few well-chosen shots tell the story better than thirty random ones:
- The worst traffic lane. Usually the hallway, the path to the couch or the top of the stairs.
- Every stain the customer pointed out. Especially ones that might not come out completely.
- Each piece of upholstery. Arm rests and seat cushions show the difference best.
- Area rugs. One full shot and one close-up of the worst area.
- Tile and grout. The grout lines show the most change.
- Existing damage. A loose seam, a burn mark or a torn corner, before you touch it.
That last one is easy to forget and very valuable. A photo of damage taken before cleaning settles any later question about whether the cleaning caused it.
Taking Good Carpet Photos
Carpet is hard to photograph. A few habits help:
- Same spot, same angle. Stand in the same place for the before and after. Use a door frame or baseboard as a landmark.
- Get low. A photo taken from waist height at an angle shows soil and texture better than one taken straight down from standing.
- Use the room's light. Open blinds if you can. Flash on carpet usually washes everything out.
- Wait for the groom. Take the after photo once the carpet is groomed, so it shows the finished look.
- Dry your hands. Wet fingers and a phone screen do not get along.
The Customer Sees Them
Customers can see the before-and-after photos from their job in the customer app. That changes the job in a few ways.
First, it shows the value. A customer looking at the gray hallway next to the clean one remembers why they called. That makes the invoice easier to accept and the next booking easier to make.
Second, it is proof. If a customer later wonders whether the stairs were done, the photos are right there in their own app.
Third, it builds trust. A company that shows its work looks like a company with nothing to hide. Customers who are happy with what they see are more likely to rate the service and refer a friend, both of which the customer app supports.
Because customers see them, take photos you would be comfortable showing. Keep personal items, family photos and anything private out of the frame.
Photos and Stains That Did Not Come Out
Photos are most important for stains that did not fully come out. A before photo of a dark spot next to an after photo of a lighter spot shows real effort and real improvement, even if the stain is still there. Combined with the stain record on the checklist and the note for the customer, it gives the office everything needed for a calm conversation. See Stains That Did Not Come Out: Recording Them in the Carpet Tech App Before the Customer Calls.
Photos for the Office and the Owner
For the office, photos answer questions without calling the tech. For the owner, they are a quiet quality check. Flipping through a day's jobs shows how techs are doing: whether traffic lanes are coming up clean, whether grooming looks right, whether furniture is going back on blocks. That is coaching material that does not require a ride-along.
Photos also help with marketing your own work. A good before-and-after from your own jobs, with the customer's permission and nothing personal in frame, can make a strong post for your company.
