Building Yearly Repeat Customers in a Carpet Cleaning Business
The cheapest job you will ever book is the one from a customer who already knows you. You do not have to find them, convince them or measure their house. You already know the rooms, the carpet, the dog and where to park. Yet many carpet cleaning businesses treat every customer as a one-time job and then spend money every spring looking for new ones.
From Pricing to Repeat Work
Pricing and minimums decide whether each job pays, as covered in Room Minimums and Trip Charges: Keeping Small Carpet Cleaning Jobs Worth the Drive. Repeat customers decide whether the business keeps paying year after year.
Homes with kids, pets and busy entryways get dirty again. Many customers would happily book every year, or every six months, if somebody asked them at the right time. The problem is rarely that the customer did not like the work. It is that nobody reached out, and a year later they found a flyer from someone else.
Ask at the End of Every Job
The best moment to set up the next cleaning is the end of this one, during the final walk-through. The carpet looks good, the customer is pleased, and you are standing in the room. A simple question works: “A lot of families have us back once a year. Want me to put you on the list so we reach out next fall?”
You are not asking for money today. You are asking permission to remind them, which is an easy yes.
Yearly and Every-Six-Months Plans
In CarpetBossPro, repeat cleanings are set by minimum days between visits. A home on a yearly whole-house cleaning comes due a year after its last cleaning. A home with pets or young kids might be every six months. An office can be on monthly carpet maintenance.
Customers can also sign up for a cleaning plan themselves in the customer app, where you can offer services and pricing such as a yearly cleaning plan. The sign-up captures their card. Website sign-ups flow into Form Responses, and one click converts a sign-up into a client.
Some owners offer a small perk for customers on a plan, like a free deodorizer or priority booking before the holidays. Whatever you offer, keep it simple enough that the office can explain it in one sentence.
Let the Software Remember
The weak point of any repeat program is memory. A year is a long time. You will clean hundreds of homes between now and when this one is due again. Nobody can keep that in their head, and a paper card file only works if someone flips through it every week.
When a home set to a repeat cleaning comes due in CarpetBossPro, it shows up on the Waiting List: a live map and list of every home that came due plus new requests. Pins are colored by status: not due yet, due now, and overdue past a 7-day grace. You can see where the due homes are, fill a day in one area, and work the overdue ones first. The Waiting List is covered in the next guide, The Waiting List: Filling a Carpet Cleaning Calendar With Homes That Came Due.
Reminders by text and email go out without anyone writing them. When the customer replies, two-way texting brings the reply to the office.
Make the Second Visit Better Than the First
Repeat customers stay when every visit feels like you remember them. That is where customer history pays off. When a new job is created at a home, it fills in from that home's last job: the rooms, stairs, upholstery, rugs, add-ons, square feet, carpet type, method and access notes. The tech sees past notes on the job card, such as the stain in the back bedroom that did not come out last time, or the note that the customer wants furniture put back on tabs.
Customers notice when you remember the dog's name or that the hose goes through the garage. They notice even more when they have to explain it all again.
Keep in Touch Without Bothering People
Repeat customers do not need a newsletter every week. They need a reminder when they are due, a night-before text so they can move the cars, and an on-the-way text so they are home. In the customer app, they choose their own alerts: the night before, when they are next, and when the tech arrives. They can see their invoices, pay, look at before-and-after photos and request service any time.
When the work is good and the reminders are timely, repeat customers become the backbone of the calendar and a big source of referrals. For every guide on building the business, go back to the carpet cleaning business software page.
